Komanche, Creator of Squid Craft Games, Has Died at 30

By Mira Okonkwo··5 min read

Carlos Mauricio Gómez — Komanche — has died at 30 in Monterrey, Mexico, his manager confirmed on Sunday. If the name is unfamiliar in English-speaking streaming, the work is not: he is the Salvadoran creator who built Squid Craft Games, the Minecraft event that put 2.26 million people on one Twitch broadcast.

What is confirmed. His manager, Byron Reyes, announced the death on Instagram on 26 October after speaking with the family, having first said the reports circulating since Sunday appeared to be true. Spanish and Mexican outlets report he was found at the home he rented in the Paseo de Cumbres area of Monterrey, that Nuevo León's prosecutor's office has opened an investigation, and that no visible signs of violence were reported at the scene.

What is not. A cause of death. The autopsy result is not public. Everything circulating beyond the paragraph above is speculation, and this piece will not add to it.

Who he was

Komanche streamed in Spanish and came out of El Salvador, a country with no streaming scene to speak of and no prior presence at this level of the industry. His manager called him one of the country's "greatest ambassadors" and said he "achieved what no other Salvadoran has achieved in this industry". That is marketing language in most obituaries. Here it is close to literal: before him, the Hispanic streaming establishment ran through Spain, Mexico and Argentina.

Where you have heard of him: Squid Craft Games

In January 2022 Komanche, Rubius and Auronplay put a Squid Game adaptation into Minecraft: a large field of Spanish-speaking creators, a run of lethal minigames, daily eliminations, one survivor. Produced with Eufonia Studio and run with Twitch Rivals, it did not behave like a Minecraft event. It behaved like television.

Figures from Esports Charts, which tracks each edition separately. The four together come to roughly 69 million hours watched. The fourth, in November 2025, fielded 200 creators for a $100,000 pool and was announced as the last in that format; Spanish accounted for over 93% of its watch time.

The final edition, summarised by Streams Charts in November 2025. Its hours-watched figure is that week's snapshot; the Esports Charts tournament page used in the table above now shows 12.83M after revision.

What those events did to the people inside them is the part worth noticing. The winner of the final edition, TivoTabo, peaked at 268,046 viewers on his own channel during the finale. Before that week, no stream of his had cleared 4,500.

The number that explains his career

Komanche built broadcasts that held over two million concurrent viewers. His own channel's all-time record is 30,034, set on 12 November 2024 — during the opening of Squid Craft Games 3, the event he had made. Across the years Streams Charts has tracked him he averaged 588 concurrent viewers, and he finished 2025 ranked around #5,575 on Twitch.

That gap is not a footnote; it is the shape of what he did. He was not a concurrency machine, and the industry's usual scoreboard — followers, average viewers, ranking — measures almost none of his actual influence. He was an event architect in a scene that had very few, and the creators who passed through his format left it with careers that did not previously exist.

How often he actually streamed

Steadily, and for a very long time. Over the period Streams Charts has tracked the channel — since August 2020 — it logs 9,581 hours of airtime across 1,683 active days, which is close to three days in four, at an average of about five hours and forty minutes per streaming day. His single biggest follower day came earlier still: one stream in February 2020 added 120,130 followers.

This year had been quieter. In the last 30 days the channel logged 16 hours 40 minutes across a handful of broadcasts, averaging 342 viewers. His September included Dedsafío 4 — two sessions of nine and a half and five and a half hours — and his birthday stream. The last broadcast on the channel was on 4 October: Elden Ring and Just Chatting, four hours, under the title he used for years, "OLA QUE TAL BROUS".

The Velada fight that did not happen

Outside Minecraft, the thing Spanish-speaking audiences associate him with is La Velada del Año. He was a fixture at the event as a guest, and in February 2026 he confirmed he would fight on the sixth card after Ibai Llanos let a detail slip on stream. The bout was then cancelled: both the organisation and Komanche said he had revealed it early and broken the confidentiality agreement, as AS/Meristation reported at the time and restated this week. La Velada 6 went ahead in July without him, and the series moves to Netflix for its seventh edition.

How the scene reacted

Tributes came quickly and, in several cases, angrily. Coscu wrote that "this is what happens when communities of rats play at being judges of other people's lives", describing pile-ons that invent and embellish and then post condolences afterwards. xTheFocuSx said he was "without words". Komanche's manager also used his statement to condemn bullying, and said the two of them had projects together that will now not happen.

Komanche had spoken publicly during his career about living with bipolar disorder and about what sustained online harassment campaigns did to him. That is context about what he chose to say while he was alive; nothing published so far connects it to his death, and the cause remains unestablished.
