Restream Just Opened Your Stream to AI Agents — and Published Seven Bots to Start With

Restream has put its account API behind a Model Context Protocol server — one URL you paste into Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Cursor or VS Code, after which the assistant can read your chat, transcripts and analytics, and operate your streams. On top of it sit seven one-click Grok Bot templates, free, on a free Restream account. The bots are read-only. The server underneath them is not — and that distinction is the whole story.

The Seven Bots

Each is a prompt-free starting point you add from Restream's plugin page inside Grok Bot, xAI's bot builder. They are labelled by where they fit in a broadcast.

The one that justifies the whole thing is Talking Points. Everything else in this list has some equivalent elsewhere; a live read of your own chat, filtered for themes with real signal and turned into cards you can put on screen mid-stream, is the thing a solo streamer genuinely cannot do while also streaming.

Why It Is Restream Doing This

Because multistreaming is the part that makes an AI read useful. If you broadcast to four platforms, your chat, your viewer counts and your clips live in four places — and no assistant can reason about a fragmented picture. Restream already merges them: one unified chat feed, per-destination analytics, one transcript, one set of recordings. An agent plugged into that sees the whole broadcast at once.

The exception is TikTok. Its chat is not in Restream's unified feed, so anything reading chat is blind to it — keep the native TikTok monitor open if you broadcast there. Our multistreaming guide covers how the unified feed works in the first place.

Read the Permissions Before You Approve It

This is where coverage will blur two different things. The seven Grok bots only read. Restream is explicit that MCP exposes no tool that posts anywhere or sends chat messages, so nothing goes out under your name; the only places a bot writes are your own Notion page and your Paper artboards.

The MCP server itself can do considerably more. Connect it to a general assistant rather than to these bots and the tool surface includes ending a channel mid-broadcast.

Two things to check before you click approve

Leave confirmations on. Restream's own advice: if a bot can create or change events, it should ask before it acts. An assistant that can end a live broadcast should never do it unprompted.
Check which workspace is active. The connection is scoped to whichever Restream workspace your browser had open at the moment you approved it, and switching afterwards does not move it. This is the cause of the “it sees the wrong channels” problem — disconnect, switch, reconnect.

Connecting It

For the Grok bots there is nothing to paste: Restream has its own plugin page inside Grok Bot, so you click Add, sign in with Restream, and every bot shares that one connection. For any other client, add https://mcp.restream.io/mcp as a custom connector — in Claude that is Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Restream notes it is not listed in built-in connector directories yet, so searching for it will not find it.

Then ask it to list your connected channels. If they come back by platform and name, it works. Two caveats worth knowing up front: transcripts take a while to be ready after a stream ends, and Studio control — scenes, layouts, guests — is not in the MCP surface yet; Restream says it is on the roadmap.

The Part Worth Noticing

Streaming tools have shipped “AI features” for two years — a summariser here, a clip-picker there, each locked inside one vendor's dashboard. This is a different shape. Restream did not build an assistant; it exposed the account and let whichever assistant you already use drive it. The seven bots are a demonstration, not the product.

Which also means the interesting question is who follows. A creator whose channel, chat and analytics are readable by an agent gets something no dashboard gives them: one place to ask questions across everything. A creator whose platform keeps that behind a proprietary panel does not. If you already multistream, this is worth an evening; if you stream to one platform, the value is thinner until the platforms themselves open up the same way.

Can an AI agent end my live stream?

The seven Grok bots cannot — they only read. If you connect Restream to a general assistant rather than using these read-only bots, keep confirmations switched on so nothing acts without you approving it.

Does it cost anything?

Restream does not charge for the connection and the bots are free to add; a free Restream account is enough to connect. Grok Bot is xAI's product, so its availability and usage limits follow your xAI plan.

Why does it show the wrong channels?

The connection is scoped to whichever Restream workspace was active in your browser at the moment you approved it — switching workspace afterwards does not change what the assistant sees. Remove Restream from the client, switch to the right workspace, and connect again.

Does it work with TikTok chat?

No. TikTok's chat is not available through Restream's unified chat feed yet, so bots reading chat will not see it. Keep TikTok's native chat monitor open if you broadcast there.

Can it control Restream Studio scenes and guests?

Not yet. Restream says the current MCP surface covers scheduling, live destination control and post-stream content, and that Studio-level control — scenes, layouts, guests — is on the roadmap.
