·6 min read

Twitch has published its State of Gaming 2026 report, and the headline number is 8.6 billion hours of gaming content watched between January 1 and September 1 — Twitch's own framing is one hour for every person on earth. Below: the five most-watched games and who leads each of them, the genre breakdown, the top game in every region, the Drops numbers, and the creators the report singles out.

The Most Watched Games on Twitch in 2026

Five games account for nearly 1.7 billion of the 8.6 billion hours — roughly a fifth of all gaming watch time on the platform. The list is remarkably stable: the same competitive and live-service pillars that have held the top of Twitch for years, with GTA V still third eight years after its roleplay scene took off.

3GTA VJLtomy · fps_shaka · PENTA

Twitch lists the games and their top streamers without splitting the 1.7B figure per title, so treat the order as its ranking rather than a set of individual totals.

Genres: Sandbox Rules, Indie Grows Fastest

Horror

287M hours

Dead by Daylight, Phasmophobia, Silent Hill f. The Horror tag alone did 93M hours, up 6%.

Creatures & companions

142M hours

Pokopia, Slime Rancher and Temtem built communities around collecting and caring.

Sandbox

831M hours

Minecraft, Tomodachi Life and friends — the single biggest genre block in the report.

Indie

348M+ hours

Up 51% year over year. Meccha Chameleon, Slay the Spire 2 and Big Walk led the tagged channels.

The number worth acting on is the indie one. +51% year over year is the fastest growth anywhere in the report, and it is the only category where a small channel can still be early to a title before the top of the directory arrives. Sandbox at 831M hours is the opposite trade: enormous, permanent, and permanently crowded.

The Top Game in Every Region

League of Legends is #1 in nine of the eleven regions Twitch broke out. Only two go their own way: DACH, where World of Warcraft leads, and Japan, where GTA V does — largely on the back of Japanese roleplay servers and fps_shaka's audience.

Two entries stand out as scene-specific rather than global hits: QSMP at #2 in Mexico — a Minecraft server with its own Twitch category — and Tibia at #3 in Brazil, a 1997 MMO that has never left the Brazilian directory.

Drops Are Now a Watch-Time Engine

The Drops section is the most interesting part of the report for anyone streaming for growth rather than for fun. Streams carrying the DropsEnabled tag generated 1.6 billion hours watched, up 46% — that is close to a fifth of all gaming watch time attached to a mechanic that rewards viewers for staying. Twitch ran more than 7,500 campaigns (up 20%), participation across channels rose 40%, and the number of users claiming Drops grew 15% to 40 million.

Why a small channel should care

A Drops campaign is the rare growth lever that does not depend on your own reach: viewers need watch time in the category to earn the reward, and any eligible channel can serve it. Enabling Drops for a campaign in a game you already play is minutes of setup, and it changes what a first-time viewer does when they land on you — stay to earn, instead of clicking away.

One caveat if you read the infographic closely: its Drops panel prints “75k” campaigns and “1.3 billion hours, up 44%” in the small caption, while the report text says 7,500 campaigns and 1.6 billion hours, up 46%. We use the figures from Twitch's written report throughout.

The Creators Twitch Singled Out

Jynxzi tops the named creators with 78 million hours watched — and notably not from one game, but from Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege and League of Legends together. Elsewhere the list reads as a map of scenes rather than a leaderboard.

CreatorRegionWhat the report notes
JynxziNorth America78M hours watched across Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege and League of Legends.
TheBurntPeanutNorth America70M+ hours, driven by ARC Raiders, Rust and Escape from Tarkov.

Noway4u_SirGermany#3 most-watched League of Legends streamer on Twitch.
Vedal987United KingdomWith AI avatar Neuro-sama, broke the Hype record a third straight time — level 123.
RubiusSpain21M+ hours watched, mostly Minecraft, TCG Card Shop Simulator and Marvel Rivals.
Kamet0France13M hours watched so far in 2026 on League of Legends and VALORANT.

DeusamirMexicoPlaced 7th at the Esports World Cup with his Call of Duty team, Leviathan.
sultan_feastsMiddle EastGrowing fast with cooking streams recreating recipes from WoW and The Witcher.

Two of those entries are quietly notable. Vedal987 breaking the Hype record for a third straight time with an AI avatar puts Neuro-sama at the top of a mechanic built for human hype trains — worth keeping in mind while the platform argues about AI clones running channels. And Tsukilin's subathon record shows the format still works as a ranking weapon: one long event moved her to #5 globally.

What Twitch Is Actually Arguing Here

The report is a pitch as much as a data drop, and CPO Mike Minton says the quiet part out loud: 8.6 billion hours “and the GTA VI community showing up so big it broke the site” are the two proof points Twitch wants publishers to remember. That is aimed at the audience that buys Drops campaigns and sponsorships, not at streamers.

For streamers, the useful reading is narrower. Watch time keeps concentrating in a handful of live-service games where breaking in is brutal; the growth is in indie tags, regional scenes and mechanics like Drops and subathons that manufacture reasons to stay.
