TikTok LIVE Is 84% Non-Gaming. Twitch Is 78% Gaming.

The four big live platforms are usually discussed as one market. September's category figures say they are a spectrum, and the two ends barely overlap: on TikTok, 84.2% of watchtime is non-gaming. On Twitch, 78% of it is gaming.

The spectrum

Twitch78% gaming · 22.0% non-gaming
Kick54% gaming · 46.0% non-gaming
YouTube29.4% gaming · 70.6% non-gaming
TikTok15.8% gaming · 84.2% non-gaming

September 2026 watchtime hours, tiktokstats.com. Left bar gaming, right bar non-gaming.

Kick is the only one near an even split, at 54% gaming. YouTube sits at 29.4%. The practical consequence is that a single cross-platform brief does not survive the range: the thing that works at the Twitch end is not what the TikTok audience is there for, and vice versa.

TikTok LIVE's top categories

Fashion2,433,3741,750,494-28.1%
Outdoors1,284,585952,057-25.9%
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang761,564804,900+5.7%
Garena Free Fire564,700576,485+2.1%

Chats is about two and a half times the size of Fashion behind it, and the top three are all non-gaming. Total TikTok watchtime across both buckets came to 933,769,715 hours.

Everything non-gaming fell. Both games rose.

The month-over-month column runs against the headline. Fashion lost 28.1% of its peak and Outdoors 25.9%, while Mobile Legends: Bang Bang gained 5.7% and Garena Free Fire 2.1%. Chats, the category that defines the platform, was down 10.1%.

One month is not a trend, and seasonal swings in lifestyle categories are ordinary. But it is worth holding the two facts together: TikTok LIVE's non-gaming dominance is a matter of scale, not of momentum. The categories carrying the platform are the ones that shrank.

What to do with it

If you stream: the competitive maths on TikTok LIVE is the inverse of Twitch. A gaming stream there is in 15.8% of the watchtime but also in a much smaller field, while Chats is enormous and correspondingly crowded. Neither is obviously better — but picking one because it worked on Twitch is picking blind. Our guide to getting viewers on TikTok LIVE covers what the format actually rewards.

If you buy: briefing TikTok LIVE as a gaming channel puts the budget in the smallest sixth of the inventory. The mass is talking-to-camera and lifestyle, and after last month it is also the part with softening numbers — which is a negotiating position as much as a planning one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most popular TikTok LIVE categories?

By peak viewers in September 2026: Chats at 4,232,208, Fashion at 1,750,494, Outdoors at 952,057, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at 804,900 and Garena Free Fire at 576,485, per tiktokstats.com. Chats is roughly two and a half times the size of the next category, and the top three are all non-gaming — which is the shape of TikTok LIVE in general rather than a quirk of one month.

Is TikTok LIVE mostly gaming?

No, and it is not close. September 2026 watchtime on TikTok split 147,571,154 hours of gaming against 786,198,561 non-gaming — 15.8% to 84.2%. For comparison, Twitch ran at 78% gaming in the same month. If you have a mental model of livestreaming built on Twitch, TikTok LIVE is close to its mirror image.

How do Twitch, Kick, YouTube and TikTok compare by category?

They sit on a spectrum rather than in one market. By September 2026 watchtime share: Twitch 78% gaming, Kick 54% gaming, YouTube 29.4% gaming, TikTok 15.8% gaming. Kick is the only one near an even split. That matters for anyone planning across platforms, because the same creator brief does not fit both ends of that range.

Which TikTok LIVE categories grew in September 2026?

Only the two games in the top five. Mobile Legends: Bang Bang rose 5.7% month over month and Garena Free Fire rose 2.1%, while the three non-gaming categories fell — Chats 10.1%, Outdoors 25.9% and Fashion 28.1%. A single month is not a trend, but it is a reminder that TikTok LIVE's non-gaming dominance is a matter of scale rather than momentum.

What does this mean if I am buying ads or booking creators?

Mostly that the inventory is not where people assume. Briefing TikTok LIVE partnerships as a gaming play puts you in the 15.8% of watchtime and in competition with the budgets chasing it. The talking-to-camera and lifestyle categories are the platform's actual mass, and they are also the ones that fell hardest last month, which is a negotiating fact as much as a planning one.
