How to Download Twitch Clips and VODs

To download a Twitch clip, copy its link and paste it into a clip downloader: the free Streams Charts one saves any public clip as an MP4 up to 1080p, no login needed. Clips from your own channel, or ones you made, can also be downloaded inside Twitch's Clips Manager. Full VODs are different: Twitch only lets you download your own, from Video Producer, and only until they expire after 7, 14 or 60 days.

- Download a Twitch clip in four steps
- 1Copy the clip link. Open the clip on Twitch and use Share → Copy link, or copy the address bar. A clip link looks like twitch.tv/channel/clip/ClipName. On a phone, tap and hold the address bar or use the Share button in the app.
- 2Paste it into the downloader. Open the Streams Charts Twitch Clip Downloader, paste the link into the box at the top of the page and press Download.

Download Clips From Your Own Channel
Twitch has a built-in download for two kinds of clips: clips anyone made of your channel, and clips you made yourself, including on other channels. Both live in the Clips Manager.
- Go to Creator Dashboard → Content → Clips.
- Use the toggle at the top to switch between Clips of My Channel and Clips I've Created.
- Click the clip, open Share and choose Download.
- Pick the landscape or the portrait version.
Every new clip gets an auto-generated portrait version next to the landscape one. If only landscape is offered, Twitch has not rendered a portrait cut yet: edit the clip, adjust the portrait layout, save, and give it a minute. That portrait file is already 9:16, so it can go straight to TikTok or Shorts. Twitch can also post clips of your channel directly to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat from the same Share menu, which skips the download entirely.
Clips do not count against any storage limit, but they are not permanent either: you can delete any clip of your channel, and deletion cannot be undone. Download Any Other Twitch Clip
A clip someone else made of someone else's channel has no download button on Twitch. That is the gap a clip downloader fills: it takes the public link and hands you the file.
With the Streams Charts Twitch Clip Downloader, paste the link, press Download, choose a resolution and press Download again. It keeps the clip at its original length, since Twitch clips are capped at 60 seconds anyway, and offers 1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p. The resolution menu cannot add sharpness: a clip from a 720p stream stays 720p. Need one moment from someone's VOD?
Clip it. Twitch lets logged-in viewers create clips from past broadcasts as well as live streams, up to 60 seconds, unless the channel restricts clipping. Publish the clip, copy its link and run it through the downloader. For a short moment that is quicker than downloading a six-hour VOD.
How to Download Your Own Twitch VODs
Your past broadcasts, highlights and uploads can be downloaded straight from Twitch, one at a time.
- Make sure VODs are being saved. Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream → Store Past Broadcasts must be on before you go live. The toggle only exists on web, so mobile streamers have to switch it on from a browser first.
- Go to Creator Dashboard → Content → Video Producer. Filter by type to find past broadcasts, highlights or uploads.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the video and choose Download.
- Leave the tab open. For long videos Twitch warns the download can take a while to start.
Three limits to know. There is no bulk download in Twitch itself, so a backlog means clicking through video by video. Segments muted by Twitch's audio recognition stay muted in the file. And channel editors can download, export and delete highlights and uploads on your behalf, which is the easiest way to hand a clean-up to someone else.
If the goal is a YouTube archive rather than a file, skip the download: connect YouTube under Settings → Connections and use Export on the same three-dot menu. Twitch notes that a YouTube account must be verified to take videos longer than 15 minutes. How Long Twitch Keeps Your VODs
Every download decision runs against this clock. Figures are from Twitch's help center as of September 2026; “Turbo” and “Prime” mean the streamer has that subscription.

Two traps sit in that table. If you stream in dual format or 2K, the vertical and 2K versions vanish after 7 days whatever your status, so download them in the first week if you want them. And turning VODs into highlights is not a free archive: highlights and uploads share a 100-hour cap per channel, and Twitch may block new highlights once you are at or near it.

Downloading Other People's Twitch VODs
This is where “Twitch VOD downloader” searches end up, so a straight answer: Twitch has no download option for VODs on channels you do not own, and the Streams Charts tool handles clips only. The VOD will also disappear on the channel's own 7-, 14- or 60-day clock. What people actually use:
- Clip the moment. For anything up to 60 seconds, clip it from the VOD and download the clip, as described above. No software, and the streamer can see the clip in their dashboard.
- TwitchDownloader. A free, open-source (MIT-licensed) app that downloads Twitch VODs, clips and chat, and can render chat into a video. The Windows version has a full interface; macOS and Linux get a command-line version. It is actively maintained on GitHub, with a release as recent as July 2026. Download it from there, not from look-alike sites.
- yt-dlp. The command-line downloader supports Twitch VODs, clips and collections. Run
yt-dlp https://www.twitch.tv/videos/<id>and it saves the file to the current folder. Good for scripts and batches, unfriendly if you have never opened a terminal.
None of this changes who owns the video. A downloaded VOD is fine to watch offline; putting it back online needs the streamer's say-so.
Downloading Twitch Clips on iPhone and Android
The downloader works in a phone browser, so the whole job fits on a phone.
- In the Twitch app, open the clip, tap Share and copy the link.
- Open the Twitch Clip Downloader in Safari or Chrome, paste, and download.
- iPhone: Safari saves the MP4 to Files → Downloads. Open it and tap Share → Save Video to move it into Photos, where editing apps can reach it.
- Android: the file lands in the Downloads folder and appears in your gallery or Files app.
Full VODs are a different story: they are large, and downloading from Video Producer is easiest on a computer with the disk space to hold them.
What You Can Do With the Files

Other people's clips belong to the streamer, and a stream can contain music, game footage or guests the streamer does not own either. A download for personal viewing is one thing; reuploading to YouTube or TikTok without permission invites copyright claims and takedowns. The clean route is built into Twitch: if a streamer turns on the setting, viewers can post clips of that channel directly to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram or Snapchat from the clip's Share menu, and on TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat Twitch auto-tags the streamer's channel name. Otherwise, ask, and credit the channel on screen.
Muted audio stays muted
Twitch's help center is explicit: downloading a VOD that was muted by audio recognition does not give you an unmuted version. If a stream matters and has music in it, record locally.
